Rock Fest Dubbed "Heavy Metal Fest" By M Shadows.

The Leader-Telegram have put up a small review of Avenged Sevenfold’s set at Rock Fest in Cadott, WI.

CADOTT – Rock Fest now has a new name – at least according to Avenged Sevenfold lead singer M. Shadows. “For the rest of the night, we’re changing the name of this festival,” Shadows told the crowd Saturday night at the Rock Fest grounds. “It’s called ‘heavy metal’ (expletive) fest.”

Dubbing the night a heavy metal affair was appropriate, as the lineup featured several new hard rock acts, with four of the five final bands making their Rock Fest debut, while the other group, Seether, had only appeared once before, in 2009. Clad in a black Pantera T-shirt and his ever-present black sunglasses, Shadows marched across the stage and belted out the group’s extended anthems. Avenged Sevenfold opened with perhaps their biggest hit, “Nightmare,” and they kept playing their major hits early in the set, moving directly into “Critical Acclaim,” “Welcome To The Family,” and “Almost Easy.”

Like many of the bands at this year’s festival, Avenged Sevenfold brought a pyro show that featured fireballs shooting up from the stage. However, the band found a way to top the other group’s pyro kinetics, as fireworks were launched from the roof of the Rock Fest theater during several of the songs. The band recently released their fifth studio album, “Nightmare,” after the death of drummer James Sullivan in 2009. “The whole record is pretty much dedicated to him,” Shadows said before launching into a new track, “So Far Away.”

The band’s heavy metal focus was on display, as cameras focused on the guitarists’ finger-work throughout the concert. Meanwhile, Shadows encouraged the rowdy crowd to mosh and dance, as the group worked through their 12-song, 80-minute set.
