Fan Review Of Avenged Sevenfold's "Welcome To The Family" Wichita, KS Tour Stop.

Some places seem to be lacking with putting professional reviews up from the “Welcome To The Family” tour so I’m glad I’ve got readers who enjoy sending in their experiences with me so that I can share some of them. This one comes from Tom H who attended the Wichita, KS show and sent in his little review of the show including a special “So Far Away” tribute.

Before the guys played So Far Away they gave a special tribute to a fan, whom they had met just two days before who passed away from cancer on Saturday. It was truly amazing that Shadows dedicated the song to the fallen fan, and the Rev, after meeting the girl only two days before. He said that he had texted her the day before and said when she gets to the pearly gates, The Rev would be waiting for her with a big hug which led to the crowd going wild.

I have been extremely fortunate in the number of times I have seen A7X. In the past 3 years, I have now seen them 5 times, with 4 coming in the past 9 months. I was fortunate enough to see them with the Rev back in April of 2009, and I had never been to a concert with the band so together before, and considered them the best live band I had ever seen, even beating out the legendary AC/DC. When I saw them last year at Uproar, they were again, amazing, but it was so soon after the Rev’s passing, you could see the pain very visibly on them. Then in February I saw them in Grand Island, this time with Arin, and I noticed they were getting back to themselves, but they still weren’t what they were in Topeka. Then Saturday night I saw them in Wichita.

With Bullet for my Valentine and Three Days Grace opening, there was truly no room for error. Both of those bands are truly amazing live, and need to be seen live. But, Avenged blew them out of the water. With the first strum of Nightmare, to the final yell of Save Me, there is nothing that could compare. The first thing I noticed was Syn. He was smiling again, this was the first time I had seen him smile in concert since Topeka. He was having a blast up there. Him and Johnny were messing around, and it was just great to see. Arin. Wow, what a difference three months makes. This kid is special, what he has picked up over the past 6 months is unbelievable. The drum solo at the intro to Welcome to the Family was mind blowing. I was hesitant and confused that they didn’t get a bigger name drummer to tour with them, but, it all makes sense. Arin seems to be the future, he was amazing.

During the song, I turned around and was just amazed at what I saw, the entire arena was lit completely by lighters, and while I have seen the tribute before, but this time it was different the number of lighters, there was a certain chill in the arena. It was truly amazing. This was the best I had seen them, beating the Topeka show.
