As much as I love putting up professional reviews I also, from time to time, enjoy sharing experiences from fans that get to see Avenged Sevenfold live for the first time. Deathbat News reader Chandler F got that chance in Portland, ME and sent in his experience as well as a photo from the show.
Finally the day came, May 1, 2011. Today was the day I got to see Avenged Sevenfold perform live for the first time in my life. After becoming a fan back in ’07, I’ve attempted to attend concerts ever since, but was unfortunately unable. But now the day had came. Me and my friends got up from our short 4 hour sleep for we were way too anxious for the concert, sleep became no object. The time had come for us to arrive at the Civic Center. In a line at least a quarter of a mile long, we waited a total of about 15 minutes. It went by quick. In the building I got a large jolt of excitement pulse through me. My favorite band was in the same exact building as I was. The thought just blew my mind. We bought some drinks then headed to the floor. The place was packed with eager fans waiting to experience the concert.
Finally the moment I had been waiting for. We made it 2 people from the front and were ready for some Avenged Sevenfold! We stared at the man on the rafters just waiting for him to jump and then for A7X to begin playing. The Nightmare intro played and the crowd went wild! The band made their way to the stage and the screaming and yelling continued. Being right in the middle, Syn popped up on the riser and then the music began. The crowd was nuts and we were being pushed back and forth, almost as if the entire crowd was about to fall over. Once Nightmare had ended a loud bang was made and the lights went out. The hanging man was lead out on a stretcher and then Critical Acclaim began. Arin played an amazing drum solo before the intro to “Welcome to the Family” and left us all in awe. So Far Away came on later and “The Rev” backdrop came down. The crowd was a sea of lighters and phones lit up in respect of The Rev. Also, Shadows mentioned that the So Far Away music video will include videos of The Rev no one has seen yet. Then one of the songs I’ve been waiting for, God Hates Us, was finally coming on. Shadows screaming was awesome! It was amazing to hear one of my favorite songs performed live. The set went on and Unholy Confessions was a big finish before the encore. They played a riff from Crossroads for a pit, and then the ending of the songs with fireworks, pyro, and smoke! It was amazing to see. After the crowd chanting “Play more songs!”, they guys finally took the stage again to play Fiction. It was an emotional song to hear live, but was performed amazingly, and I loved all the guitar Syn put into it. They closed the night with Save Me, the next song that I was looking forward too. WOW! What a performance. Arin killed the song! And Syn nailed the solo perfectly! While closing out the show, the band began to throw out picks and drum sticks and such. Johnny Christ through out a pick, hit me in the nose, and then I caught it! I was so happy! They left the stage, and the security began pushing us out.
I had the best night of my life and I didn’t feel like ever leaving the show! It will definitely be a night that I’ll never forget. Thank you Avenged Sevenfold for the best concert experience ever and putting on one of the best shows I’ve ever seen!
