During an interview with 93X’s Pablo, Metallica’s Lars Ulrich and Robert Trujillo were asked [27:50-29:50] how they set up the show at U.S. Bank Stadium with Avenged Sevenfold and Volbeat. They also touched a little on A7X’s free show at First Avenue.
Pablo: ..playing in Minneapolis on Saturday night. That bill is pretty rad, by the way, don’t you think? With Volbeat and Avenged Sevenfold. Metallica. Knockout. Wow. How’d you line that up? Just called the fellas and said ‘Hey you guys busy?’
Lars: Fellas? You busy? [laughter] We’ve done a lot of gigs with both bands, actually, over the years. Avenged have been friends of ours, I think since 2006 was the first time, when they broke. They played with us all over Europe. Awesome guys. They’ve played with us in Mexico. They’ve played with us everywhere. […] Both bands are part of the extended Metallica family.
Robert: […] I’m excited for both bands but my good friend Brooks Wackerman, who’s now drumming with Avenged, is obviously playing on Saturday with us so, it’ll be great to see him and his family.
Pablo: Do you know tonight, actually, Avenged is..
Lars: They’re playing a free show, yeah! I heard.
Robert: Oh cool!
Pablo: Just to get warmed up. You know Brooks gets in front of 1,500 people there with those guys for the first time then he plays in front of 50,000.”
Robert: There you go. Break ‘em in, break ‘em in.
